Senate Computer Internship

Program:

A computer support internship is available to students from all colleges and universities in Washington during the legislative session of the Washington State Legislature. The Computer Support Intern will be assigned to work with the Senate Information System Coordinator in Olympia. Work assignments are varied. The intern may provide computer support for other interns; maintain users' configuration files; troubleshoot hardware and software; program applications; and convert data. She or he will acquire hands-on computer support and legislative experience and will also have the opportunity to attend workshops and trainings as part of the Legislative Internship Program.

Ideally, the Internship will begin in late December. Orientation and training will begin prior to the opening of session. The internship will end shortly after the end of session. This will coincide with winter and spring quarters or spring semester. Interns are paid monthly by the Legislature and earn credit through their school.  The internship is open to all undergraduate students.

The computer intern will work with Senate Administration’s Information Systems Coordinator.

Intern Duties:

  • User support and troubleshooting
  • Transporting and installing hardware (peripherals and PCs)
  • Software installation
  • Inventory Database Management (minimal)
  • Custom Report Writing (minimal)

Knowledge of:

  • Windows 2000/XP
  • Corel WordPerfect
  • Microsoft
  • General networking concepts
  • General hardware concepts
  • Hardware installation and troubleshooting
  • Software installation and troubleshooting
